Written by J.R. Gordon @ WWW.MMABuzz.com

July 23, 2011 at the National Western Complex in Denver the Fight To Win INVADERS show took place with proceeds from the promoters and vendors and donations for autographs from professional fighters Justin Wren, Eliot Marshall, Duane Ludwig, Brendan Schaub and Shane Carwin all going to benefit the Constantinides Memorial Fund.

Main event: Josh Cavan vs. Travis Peak. The fighters traded strikes with each landing well before they got into the clinch where Peak landed a huge knee strike opening a gash on the head of Cavan. Peak then got scored with a big takedown and spent the majority of the rest of the round working GNP while Cavan scrambled to escape and threatened with submissions. Round two had Peak scoring well with a takedown and working GNP to transition to back control then try for an RNC. Cavan got back to standing and shook off Peak then he put together a series of punches that hurt Peak. Peak continuously tried for takedowns, but Cavan sprawled and worked a very strong flurry of strikes to visibly hurt Peak. Round three had the crowd chanting for both fighters and Peak was time and time again able to get ankle pick takedowns but each time Cavan worked to standing and landed brutal head punches. One last time Peak went to pick an ankle and Cavan defended and threw a series of head punches to the downed Peak. The referee stepped in and stopped the attack giving the TKO to Josh Cavan at 4:24 of round three.

Josh Ford vs. Nick Macias. The fighters spent a lot of time with each able to press the other into the cage. Finally Ford got a big takedown but Macias got back to his feet when Ford missed an ankle lock attempt. A low blow by Macias halted the action and after a warning the fight was restarted. The rest of the round played out as standing action with each landing body kicks and knees in the clinch. Round two had the fighters clinch early and Macias landed another accidental low blow that cost him a point. On the restart Ford got a takedown but Macias ended on top. Ford rolled through for a kneebar but Macias defended and spent the rest of the round in side control or inside the guard of Ford working GNP. In round three the fighters traded position and strikes against the cage before Ford worked for a takedown. Macias controlled the fall and ended in half mount. Ford worked to escape or reverse and Macias worked GNP until the action slowed and the referee stood the fighters. They traded strikes with each landing well until the bell ended the fight. The scorecards were read and the winner unanimous decision was Nick Macias.

George Ashauer vs. Anthony Alirez. The fighters traded strikes briefly from the outside before Ashauer closed into the clinch. Alirez got a big bodylock takedown and flurried with GNP until Ashauer scrambled back to his feet. Once standing Alirez landed a left hook to drop his opponent and the follow-up GNP got him the TKO at 1:36 of round one.

Angelo Duarte vs. Chase Hackett. Almost immediately Duarte shot for and got a takedown but Hackett worked back to standing quickly and landed knees in the clinch. Duarte tried for a head toss takedown but Hackett landed on his back. After setting both hooks Hackett worked prolonged GNP to soften his opponent before setting the fight winning RNC at 3:33 of round one.

Matt Simms vs. Nate Johnson. The fighters had a brief striking exchange before Simms shot for and got a takedown. Johnson worked for a guillotine choke, but from the top Simms countered with a shoulder choke to get the submission victory at 1:02 of round one.

LT Nelson vs. Texas Cole. The fighters traded strikes for the first third of the round then it went to the mat and each was able to land strikes before they scrambled back to standing. On the feet the fighters traded guillotine choke attempts before Nelson landed a solid series of strikes including a good flurry of knees. Round two had the fighters exchanging strikes with Nelson visibly hurting Cole then closing in with a head kick to drop him. On the mat Nelson flurried with GNP to get the TKO win at :48 of round two.

Andrew Alirez vs. Zac Chavez. The fighters clinched and hit the mat early. Chavez received some GNP before scrambling back to standing. Alirez hit a slick lateral drop and spent the rest of the round controlling position and landing GNP while Chavez worked to escape. Round two saw Alirez getting the fight to the ground, both initially and after a stand up by the referee due to a lack of ground action. The fight was stopped and Alirez was warned for knees to the head and when the action restarted Alirez scored a takedown and worked GNP from side control to end the round. Round three began with Chavez rushing forward, securing head control, swinging to back control and closing off the RNC for the submission win at :19 of round three.

Justin Houghton vs. Nathan Gates. Round one was an all standing affair with good movement showed by Houghton and Gates landing effective punches and three solid head kicks. Round two was also all standing with no one even faking a takedown. Houghton found his range better in this round in addition to landing a head kick of his own. Round three saw the fighters stand and exchange with Houghton able to land several stunning punches to Gates. Houghton landed a right hook that dropped his opponent and a few follow up punches on the ground got him the TKO win at 1:47 of round three.

Josh Goldberger vs. Josh Cole. There was a brief exchange of strikes before Cole got it to the mat. Goldberger immediately got guard then threw up a triangle choke. At :53 of round one Goldberger got the choke closed off to win the Fight To Win welterweight title.

Chris Goetch vs. Steve Powell. Powell immediately pushed Goetch into the cage, but Goetch reversed and got a takedown. Momentarily Goetch took mount but Powell reversed and worked between GNP and defending armbars until the fighters were stood by the referee. On their feet Powell pressed the action to close out the round. Round two had Powell finding success with strikes early, but off of the cage Goetch got a double leg takedown and spent the rest of the round working from side control between submission attempts and GNP. Round three began with an exchange of leg kicks before Goetch got a takedown and spent a lot of time in mount. The action slowed, the referee stood the fighters and they exchanged strikes evenly to end the fight. The scorecards were read and the winner by split decision was Chris Goetch.

Kevin Hernandez vs. Kevin Schmitt. The fighters clinched early and after some striking Schmitt took the fight to the mat with a head toss takedown. Hernandez rolled through, worked GNP from side control then took mount. From the top Hernandez used more GNP to get Schmitt to roll face down and Hernandez sunk in the RNC for the win at 2:35 of round one.
