Friday January 27, 2012 at the historic Paramount theater in downtown Denver Colorado the Fight To Win promotion held their, “Prize Fighting” event. It was an all professional event with ten bouts contested and two titles on the line.

Main event: Jeremiah Constant vs. Derek Lewis for the Fight To Win Heavyweight title. The fighters traded early with both landing well. Briefly it went to the mat and from his knees Constant picked an ankle to get the fight to the mat. They scrambled for position and Lewis took back control and flurried with punches. The referee stopped the bout when several hard punches landed to the back of Constant’s head. Constant was unable to continue and the strikes were ruled accidental so the bout was called a no contest.

Co-Main event: Jason Lee vs. Jeremy Kimball for the Fight To Win Middleweight title. Both fighters came out looking to land power shots and Kimball landed several hard leg kicks early including one that spun Lee in a circle. Mid-round Kimball began to use his reach well landing from the outside while Lee countered with power. With 30 seconds left Kimball got a takedown into full mount and worked GNP to end the round. Round two began with a trade of hard leg kicks. Kimball then landed a knee to the head and Lee answered with an overhand punch. Lee took an accidental low blow and when they restarted Kimball scored a takedown into side control where he threw knees to the body. Lee got back to his feet and they went to the center of the cage and traded strikes. Kimball clinched and landed a knee to the head followed by a hard leg kick. When Kimball dropped his hands Lee threw a front kick to the face and Kimball answered with a roundhouse to the head. With ten seconds left Kimball got a takedown into full mount and ended the round working GNP. Round three had even striking exchanges to start including several acrobatic kicks from Kimball including a jumping switch kick that landed well. Kimball then scored a takedown and took back control. He flurried with strikes to get the TKO at 2:07 of round three to win the Fight To Win middleweight professional title.

Josh Cavan vs. Santana Sol Martinez. Cavan got the clinch early and used it to score a big slam. On the ground Cavan took top position and worked solid GNP. Cavan tried for back control but Martinez turned in and worked strikes from inside the guard. Cavan showed an active guard and set in a triangle choke to get the submission victory at 2:05 of round one.

Brian Wood vs. Vellore Caballero. The fighters clinched early and battled for position off of the cage until the referee separated them. On the restart Wood landed a head kick and the fighters clinched against the cage and again the referee separated them when the action slowed. Wood shot for and missed a takedown and off of the break Wood landed a head kick that dropped Caballero. Wood followed him to the mat and worked GNP from inside the guard until the round ended. Round two began with Wood using strikes to set up a takedown. From side control Wood transitioned to full mount but Caballero got half guard then scrambled to standing. Wood flurried with strikes then got a takedown and again took full mount. Caballero rolled to escape but Wood took back control and set in the RNC for the win at 1:56 of round two.

Josh Huber vs. Josiah Callis. Huber came out aggressive but when he threw a jumping knee Callis caught him and took him down. The fighters quickly went back to standing and traded very hard shots with Callis landing well until he hit Huber with an accidental low blow. The action restarted and both landed hard punches and kicks from the outside before standing toe-to-toe and trading blow-for-blow. Callis initiated the clinch, got a takedown, secured back control and worked GNP to set up an RNC attempt. Huber defended but Callis secured a body triangle and worked more GNP. Huber turned in to end inside the guard of Huber. They scrambled for position then went to standing and again traded blows with each landing well until the round ended. To start round two Huber pressed forward early and landed well with combinations. Callis answered but Huber continued to strike and land well. Callis scored a takedown but was unable to hold Huber down. From standing Callis again shot for a takedown but Huber defended and took back control with a body triangle locked in. From the back Huber landed hammer fist strikes to set up an RNC that he sank in for the tapout win at 4:17 of round two.

Ian Berg vs. Xavier Saccamano. After an initial exchange Berg landed a left hook that dropped Saccamano. Berg followed him to the mat and took full mount, then back control to set up the fight winning RNC with the tapout coming at 1:39 of round one.

Josh Goldberger vs. Matt Cox. Goldberger landed first with leg kicks that Cox answered in kind. Off of the clinch Goldberger got standing back control and took the fight to the mat. The referee stood the fighters and they worked in and out of the clinch until Cox dropped for a kneebar which Goldberger defended and took half mount to work GNP. From side control Goldberger landed elbows before securing back control to set up an RNC attempt. Cox defended and turned to end in the guard of Goldberger to end the round. Round two saw both fighters land knees in the clinch before Goldberger shot for and got a takedown. Cox showed an active guard but Goldberger passed to side control to set up a far-side straight armbar attempt. Cox defended, scrambled to standing and worked hard strikes from the top before momentarily taking back control. The fighters worked to standing to end the round. Round three began with both landing hard strikes until it went to the mat with Goldberger working strikes from inside the guard of Cox. Cox worked for multiple submission attempts in addition to landing a solid series of elbows from off of his back. The round ended with the fighters scrambling for position before working to standing. The scorecards were read and the winner by unanimous decision was Matt Cox.

Gabe Gonzales vs. Jarred Mercado. Gonzales tried for a takedown but Mercado defended then scored with a big slam. On the mat Mercado used strikes to transition to mount, then side control to work a prolonged flurry of elbow strikes until the referee stopped the bout giving Mercado the TKO win at 3:56 of round one.

Derek Moralez vs. Todd Meredith. Moralez opened with a flying side kick and was taken down by Meredith. The fighters scrambled to standing and stood toe-to-toe trading vicious strikes with each landing well. Momentarily they separated then they traded evenly again with the fight going to the mat with Meredith ending on top. Meredith scored hard GNP to set up full mount to work more strikes and try for an armbar. Moralez defended and ended in the guard of Meredith. Off of his back Meredith secured a Kimura and closed it off for the submission win at 3:55 of round one.

Abe Alvarado vs. Tony Miller. The fighters came out striking hard and both were content to keep the fight standing and trade hard punches and kicks. Miller landed a knee then an uppercut that dislodged the mouthpiece of Alvarado, but Alvarado recovered and landed hook punches that dropped Miller. On the ground Miller regained his composure and scrambled to standing. The fighters again traded hard strikes and it went to the mat where Miller tried for a triangle choke before they went to standing again. Off of the clinch Alvarado scored a takedown into side control where he worked GNP to end the round. In round two the fighters initially probed with strikes from the outside then Alvarado scored a takedown. Miller attained full guard and scored a sweep to set up a scramble to standing. Miller landed a jumping knee and it went to the mat where Miller threatened with a front choke before taking back control. Alvarado stayed calm and got a sweep to take north/south position. The action slowed and the referee stood the fighters and they clinched to end the round. Round three had even striking exchanges to start then Miller visibly hurt Alvarado and pinned him to the cage. Alvarado circled out and shot for and got a double leg takedown. Off of his back Miller threatened with a triangle choke and an armbar. Alvarado countered with a head and arm triangle that he used to set up a transition to back control to work GNP until the fight ended. The scorecards were read and the winner by was Abe Alvarado.

Submission of the night goes to Todd Meredith for his Kimura off of his back.

KO/TKO of the night goes to Jarred Mercado for his fight winning flurry of elbow strikes

Fight of the night goes to Josiah Callis and Josh Huber for their epic battle that tested the spirit and chins of both fighters and has them in solid and early contention for fight of the year.
